1. Create “Back Links”

Of all effective traffic generation tactics linking to and from other sites is the one of the most widely-used methods. Simply put, you promote the website link of your site on other people’s sites.

I advise you to only exchange links which are related to your own business. Additionally don’t overkill this approach, search engines don’t like it – unless your site has valuable content.

Here are 6 key methods to consider (make sure you embed your link or “back link” in the content):

1. Comment on forums

2. Post on social networks & bookmarking sites

3. Write articles and post in article directories

4. Post your website on popular web directories

5. Write a press release and distribute via PR sites

2. Create “Keyword” Rich Content

Keywords are words used by everyone to search for the content they want on the Internet. Users type into search engines keywords (e.g. Tell me how to poach an egg?) and the engine then searches the Internet or the website you are on to find sites with this content.

This is a great strategy to get free traffic (and what everyone should do). Therefore we highly recommend you embed keywords where possible into your blogs, articles, products and website.

If you understand what your customers want then your know what types of questions or keywords they will use.

If you are stuck, you should also be scientific and use some great online tools to help. You can find the right keywords to use in your niche from free keyword suggestion tools such as Google’s Keyword Tool and Yahoo Overture. I also recommend you look at MARKET SAMURAI, another great tool.

Make sure your keyword rich content is readable and genuinely informative – you want repeat visitors to subsequently become repeat clients.

3. Populate Meta Tags on Your Site

Another way to acquire lots of traffic for your money earning sites is by using your keywords in meta tags on your website / webpages.

Meta tags help search engines in describing your web page. If you’re quite adept with the HTML manipulating your meta tags would be a breeze.

4. Run Regular Broadcast Campaigns to Your “Email Lists”

Everyone states the value of your business is in your Email List. This is so true as your Email List are your existing and future customers!

There are many tactics to use in ‘Email List Building‘ (this I will cover in a future article). The goal of this strategy is to get your prospects to subscribe to your list so they are happy to receive ongoing emails from you.

Once you have a list, you need to attract their interest, build trust, add value so at some point, they want to find out what you do that helps them, and then buy something!

I recommend you offer stacks of value and don’t expect much in return. If your email copy is good, appeals to them, their natural inclination is to pay attention and engage more.

I use all of the above tactics. It takes time, i.e. not a short term exercise, but will pay dividend in the medium to long term.
